The outcome of Positions.readPosition. Only not_found is chain-confirmed absence (the backend answers HTTP 404 only when the chain itself found no such position); unknown is "no evidence either way" — a transport failure, a gateway timeout, any other error status or an answer that is not a position — and must never be read as a removal.
